3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Worked fine, with a secret extra part!, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Thule Xsporter Adaptors (Misc.) Note - the picture with this item is of the OLD Xadapt9, that Thule considers inferior.I own a Thule prologue bike carrier that I used to mount on my VW Golf with square bars. I changed my car and the new one has factory rails, so I took the opportunity to invest in the sleeker aero bars and figured I'd buy the Xadapt9 to fit my Prologue bike carrier to it. The instructions are OK, but a little misleading - they talk about installing a 2 bolts in the front rack, and a 3rd bolt (that I didn't have) into the rear rack (that wouldn't do anything anyway). They also don't mention that you'll obviously need to cut the rubber gasket that fits in the aero bar to allow you to put the bolts into the track in the bars. I got the kit through the mail, the day before a big ride, I of course I couldn't get the Prologue to secure tightly - there was always some side to side play. So I had to take my bike apart and throw it in the back of my car. Not impressed. I... Well, when I got the Xadapt3 and followed the instructions, I noticed that the longer 80mm bolts were too long and didn't allow the carrier to be tightened down because the threads on the 80mm bolts only went about an inch up and not the entire length of the bolt. The 60mm and 50mm bolts that came with my kayak carrier were too short and Thule doesn't sell a 70mm bolt or a 80mm bolt that is threaded all the way to the top of the bolt. I called up Thule but all I got was a message saying to leave a message and they would return my call. Well, wouldn't you know it, Thule never bothered to return my call. I eventually had to rig up something myself to secure the Glide and Set kayak carrier to my factory crossbars.Shame on Thule for listing products that aren't compatible and for the worst customer service ever. Although I'm... Read more OK, after some fixes, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Thule Xsporter Adaptors (Automotive) This adaption set is needed when you want to put a bike holder on some Thule bars. In general you think: is this going to hold my bike when I drive 70 miles an hour? And yes, it will do. But one things that doesn't work are the plastic 'things' that you need to screw down, to a 'certain' point, which is not defined, and then you press them down. For one of my bikes, this worked fine, but when putting the other on top of the car, and push the plastic down, it broke! Didn't expect that I'm that strong. So used a spare one, but that was still feeling loose. So during the drive I had to first stop every 2 miles to clamp it back down, and find some duck tape in the end to keep it down. I will make a modification by myself. But for the price you pay for it, you don't expect you've to do that. Thule needs to go back to the drawing board! |
