I have found no down side to using the adapter provided you grind the nubs off. DETAILS BELOWI recently ordered a "fork-up" fork mount adapter. I was actually dellivered a Thule fork mount adapter but I imagine they are functionally the same. I have Rock Shox REBA forks 15mm. I was a bit concerned because the spec sheet for my bike says the width is a few millimeters different from the stated size of the fork mount adapter. It fits perfectly. Be sure to get the right one The first mount I bought was not the right one and so it did not fit - go figure. I have 5... I just wish it sat a bit lower. I have an internal rack in the back of my SUV and I had to reposition the quick release closer to the middle of the crossbar to which it is attached in order to get the handlebars in an area with higher clearance. Not sure yet if I will be able to get a bike in and attached to the second quick release as a result. In any case, I'm glad that the thing worked. Strange that local bike shops don't carry parts like this. I guess that's what Amazon is for these days. Sort of sad. In that most new forks come with a thru axle as opposed to the old drop out axle, and most racks are made for the old style axle, these adaptors are becoming increasingly necessary. The construction of a thru axle adaptor is pretty basic. What gets me is the price gouging going on for this product. The average online price is around $40. Last year I was in a bind and needed one on a bike trip - it cost me $72 at a bike shop. I found this Thule on Amazon.com for $24. This price is reasonable for this product. Any other prices I have found are forms of price gouging. Thanks for providing this product for a reasonable price. |
