The Thule Passage 2-Bike Trunk Mount Carrier has a two bicycle carrying capacity. Trunk mount carriers do not require a roof rack, are easy to install and offer easy access to bikes. This makes them common, especially with new cyclists and families, but they can also be one of the least stable and awkward options on the road, sometimes leading to bike-on-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact and presenting problems with parking. The Thule Passage 2-Bike Trunk Mount Carrier does away with these issues with its no-sway, no hassle usability. It quickly secures to trunk and/or hatchback seams with multiple straps just like other carriers in its class, but also contains unique setup features. The first of these is a wing adjustment knob and FitDial combo with recommended numerical positions for specific vehicles. This limits the trial and error in how the carrier should lay against your vehicle. Once this optimal fit position is confirmed it is locked into place with easy to turn wing adjustment knobs. Then there is the one-button connection feature for carrier arms, allowing for instantaneous installation, removal and maneuvering of the arms to the side then down and out of the way for parking situations with the carrier on, but empty of bikes. It also features narrow cradle arms, capable of holding a wider range of bike frames including smaller child frames. Most impressive though is the no-sway cage feature. I used this to transport my Cannondale road bike across the country. Unfortunately, the plastic piece that straps onto the downtube to keep the bike from swaying put some serious scratches in my bike's paint, wearing it all the way to the shiny aluminum below. Pretty disappointing. I have taken one bike over 1500 miles and it has not had any problems. I own a dodge caliber and it fits well. I've also used this rack on a dodge caravan.A tip for getting the side/bottom straps tight: snug up the straps as much as you can, lean on the rack to make it go left, tighten up the left strap, lean on the rack ot make it go right, and tighten up the right strap. I'd suggest getting a small bungy to attach the front wheel of your bike to the bike frame so it doesn't bump around. Also, when using the safety strap to tie the bike to the frame of the rack, make sure the pedal of the bike won't scratch your car. Figured all these people can't be wrong, right? Upon receiving the rack I installed it and it was very easy to do. Afterward I gave the routine check and noticed that the arms felt loose to me since they use push in button for the swivel feature that allows for more compact storage. The looseness concerned me but again, I had no idea how the competition matched up either so I gave it a shot. I mount up my 2 mountain bikes and strapped them down and the looseness was gone, the bikes had locked the arms in place. Here it is about a dozen trips later and the bike carrier is still working like a champ, I'm completely confident that the bikes aren't going anywhere.
