I have a Mercury Villager and a Jeep Patriot. Both of them have wide factory crossbars on the roof racks. The SportRack was the only bike rack I could find that would fit... and it fit perfectly. The clamps are broad (3") and have a gentle arc to them, just like my roof racks. It might not work as well on crossbars that are round or square.
The racks aren't too hard to assemble, and all the critical connection points are metal (for instance, the plastic retainers have threaded inserts). It looked and felt plenty solid. The clamp mechanism works fine on most bikes, but my son's mountain bike has a non-round frame and the clamp doesn't work on that.
The sliding "ramps" and straps work well, but there is a limit to how long the bike can be and still work... my longest bike is 53 1/2" from hub to hub, and it fits on the SportRack but the rear ramp and strap have to be in front of the rear wheel, instead of behind it. The bike seems to be secure, but I'd prefer the ramp to be... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Good bike rack for the money, June 4, 2012
This review is from: SportRack ABR611 Nomad Universal Upright rack (Sports)
I have this bike rack for 5 years. This is very easy to assemble. This fits extremely well on a Toyota factory roof rack round cross bars with its curve brackets (2 in the front and 1 in the back). It is very easy to mount a bike and dismount a bike on this rack. I have used this bike rack for a small size woman (insert famous brand) hardtail mountain bike and a large size man (insert famous brand) hardtail mountain bike. The rack is just long enough to hold man bike. Bike is very secured on this mount. One of my trips was a 500 miles (each way) trip at highway speed with some fancy braking and maneuvering due to traffic conditions. Other trips are shorter. I never have a problem with the rack. As this is a roof rack, do expect some bike lifting over the car, SUV or van. I bring along a 20 buck Walmart ladder to ease this task.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Well On A Nissan Murano, June 1, 2012

I bought 2 of these racks for my 2008 Murano with a factory installed roof rack. The installation was straight forward and I encountered no problems getting both racks up in under an hour. The quality of the rack is good for the money and it saves you from having to buy an aftermarket rail system. I have been using these racks for over a year now and the only issue I have is remembering to watch out for low underpasses which is my issue not the racks :)
