Ultimate Usability Along with Full Access to Your Hatchback

The Thule Revolver Hitch Bike Carrier is designed for frequent cyclists who ride in groups and/or families that have a 2-inch hitch receiver on their vehicle or are considering having one installed. This carrier can accommodate up to four bikes and features Thule's top-of-the-line T3 cradles that hold bikes in place for maximum frame protection overall stability. Working together with these cradles are the patented No-Sway Cage attachments that further secure bike frames to the unit's carrier arms along a vertical axis, drastically limiting the possibility of bike movement in transit that can cause damage to bikes and vehicles. The Thule Revolver also features an integrated lock cable for securing bikes to the carrier, carrier arms that fold down when not in use for ease of parking and most dramatically and most impressive of all, built-in swing arm functionality that allows unencumbered access to the rear of the vehicle.

This swing arm functionality is provided by way of a connection between the two segments of the units horizontal base which in turn connect to the hitch. When the Revolver is in the standard use position these two segments are automatically held together by a spring loaded joint, along with a lower locking handle and upper lock-up pin combination that snap closed on contact. When the upper lockup pin is lifted up a gentle push can separates the two segments and the Revolver easily swings to the side and can be held open with the tethered hold-open pin inserted into the pre-bored hole at the joint where the spring is hidden. This ease of movement of the swing arm is the same whether the carrier is empty or loaded, providing clear access to hatchbacks or other rear vehicle openings whenever it is needed. To return the swing arm to its standard position simply remove the hold-open pin. The arm will move back into position and will lock into place with a click of the lower locking handle and upper lockup pin.

About Thule

Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulin, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as promised, July 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Thule 964 Revolver 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver) (Sports)
I wasn't too happy spending this much money on a bike carrier, but I knew the fold down carriers would be a real pain. I am VERY glad I spent the extra money. Assembly was a breeze and it fits easily onto the hitch of our Toyota Sienna (using a Hidden Hitch). All the mechanisms for folding and extending work great and give us plenty of clearance to access the trunk of the minivan. I also love having the hitch and bike locks integrated. Makes it much easier to manage and I did not need to buy any accessories.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Rack with a Flaw, August 26, 2008
This review is from: Thule 964 Revolver 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver) (Sports)
We puchased this rack about six monthes ago. We were attracted to it's ability to swing out of the way of the tailgate of our Mazda Tribute SUV.(Note that it requires a 2" receiver, which is not standard on this vehicle) It also is lower in height than other models, enabling the glass to open without swinging the rack out of the way. The bars that carry the bikes easily swing down out of the way, unlike some other models we have seen. It also comes with effective locks for the bikes and and the hitch pin. With the heavy-duty design, be prepared for it's considerable weight. Not everyone will be able to install or remove it form the receiver without assistance.
My beef is with the design for securing the swinging arm to fixed part of the rack. Like most other "swing-away" bike racks, it uses a large threaded bolt to lock them together. It holds securely, but ours cross threaded after just one month of use. I had to take it back to the dealer and get a replacement rack. This is a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great carrier for the money and features, June 19, 2008
This review is from: Thule 964 Revolver 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver) (Sports)
This is a great rack if you need access to the rear tailgate. I considered pretty much every rack out there. All of them have tradeoffs. I didn't want to remove a wheel then climb on the roof to mount each bike. I also didn't want to have the bikes in the way when I needed to get something out of the trunk (that happens quite a bit with kids on a roadtrip). I looked at the models that fold down. That's a great idea, unless you have the rack loaded. 4 bikes can be 120 - 140 lbs. That's a little much for some folks to lift up. Besides, just lowering the rack doesn't give great access to the rear since you still have to step around the rack.

On to the Revolver, which is almost perfect. My mountain bike has the cables running under the main tube. That means that I have to put a protective cloth between the cables and the tube or the cables would rub the paint. Obviously that's not Thule's fault. That's it though as far as negatives. It's the best rack I've seen... Read more
